A home alarm needs to work with the way your household lives. For an Altrincham home with a dog or cat, that starts with explaining where the animal spends time while you are out, rather than choosing equipment from a pet-friendly label alone.
Before a survey, make a simple room list. Note where your pet sleeps, which doors stay open and whether it climbs onto sofas, window ledges or tall furniture. Include any rooms that must remain accessible for food and water. These details give the installer a more useful brief than the animal's weight on its own.

Those figures belong to that model; they are not a promise that every Ajax detector will ignore every pet.
Furniture matters. Ajax warns that an animal jumping onto an armchair, reaching detector height or moving close to the detector can cause an alarm. A suitable position therefore needs to consider the animal's actual routes as well as the room's entrances. Ask the installer to explain the chosen position and any furniture restrictions before fixing the detector in place.
Agree which parts of the home need protection when you are out and when people remain inside. Ask how the proposed design fits those routines, and have the installer explain any areas that will not be covered in each setting. Simply leaving a troublesome detector disabled can create a gap that the household does not understand.
At handover, ask for the relevant detection and communication checks to be demonstrated. Ajax provides installation tests, including a detection-zone test to check where movement is detected. Confirm how to use the agreed settings and how to report a problem. If the alarm is monitored, agree the testing procedure with the provider before deliberately triggering it.
If unwanted activations occur, keep a short record of the time, detector name, animal's location and any recent room changes. Share that with your installer instead of repeatedly reducing sensitivity or moving equipment yourself. Review the arrangement after a new pet arrives, a kitten starts climbing or furniture is rearranged.
