Going away from Sale for a few days? Give your home alarm handover the same attention as your travel plans. If a trusted neighbour or relative will visit, make sure they understand the agreed routine before you leave.
Start with a short practice visit while you are at home. Walk through the entrance they will use, how you normally unset and set the alarm, and how to confirm the system is ready before leaving. Use the instructions for your actual system and ask your installer about anything unclear.
Agree the limits of their visit. Will they collect post, water plants or check the house after a notification? Decide who they should contact if something seems wrong. A helpful neighbour should never feel expected to enter a property when there may be an intruder.
Keep access details private. Ask your installer which options your particular alarm supports for a temporary helper, and how access should be reviewed afterwards. Avoid leaving alarm instructions or security details where a visitor at the door could read them.
Before travelling, deal with any unresolved warnings through your installer. Allow time to understand the cause and arrange any needed work. Do not make unfamiliar last-minute changes or assume that a phone notification automatically means somebody will attend.
Build a simple departure routine around the whole property. Police guidance recommends locking doors and windows, setting the burglar alarm and checking gates and outbuildings. It also suggests asking a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your home and avoiding public holiday updates on social media.
When you return, let your helper know and review any access arrangements you made. Keep their feedback about confusing steps: it is useful information for your next discussion with the installer.
